Open Farm Day 2025

noun. A day for the public to tour the province and visit participating farms – and hopefully learn a little more about where their food comes from.

Sunday, September 21st from Noon until 3pm

I have been participating in Open Farm Day since my very first one in 2018. And although COVID forced the 2020 and 2021 Open Farm Days to be virtual, it’s always been a pleasure to invite the public on to my little farm to meet and greet the animals, learn a little more about agriculture, and hopefully head home with a new experience or two and just maybe the thought of trying something similar themselves.

This years Open Farm Day will be held on Sunday, September 21st from Noon until 3pm.

For a list of other participating farms in the province please visit Atlantic Open Farm Day. There is never a charge for attending Open Farm Day but some locations may offer specific services for a fee. All activities at Simply Ducky Farm are completely free for Open Farm Day!

No pets are allowed on the farm during Open Farm Day and all visitors are reminded to be aware at all times of the electric fencing in use.

As Nova Scotia is currently experiencing extreme drought conditions and my farm is located in a wooded area it is more important than ever that NO SMOKING take place on or around the property.

What Can I See?

Visitors to Simply Ducky Farm will be able to meet:

  • Some very friendly (and snuggly) Nigerian Dwarf Goats
  • North Country Cheviots Sheep
  • The Boys, two former-feral-turned-barn cats that love attention
  • The LadiesIcelandic Sheep along with their Icelandic-Shetland cross roommates
  • The Ashdale Landscaping Crew will be available for scritches
  • Miniature Horses and Miniature Donkeys
  • Rabbits, of the petting-friendly, super-fluffy variety

Experienced folks will be on hand to discuss the ins and outs of raising your own pork, beef, or chicken – as well as how to get started with goats, miniature horses, or donkeys. Be sure to ask lots of questions!

Parking

As parking space is limited please drive carefully and pay careful attention to pedestrians as there will be lots of young children about. There is space for approximately 30 vehicles to park at the farm.

Last year saw record attendance with almost 1,000 people attending. The resulting traffic meant many folks had to park at the side of the very busy Number 7 Highway. If you do feel the need to park there please exercise extreme caution when exiting your vehicle and walking to the farm.

Our Location

Simply Ducky Farm is located at 2952 Highway 7, just outside the town of Antigonish, in Eastern Nova Scotia. Just keep an eye open for the signage at the end of the driveway.
